#Wheninkuwait_Interview

My friend Erwin, a 29-year-old civil engineer called me. He told me that he got a phone from a recruitment agency, They were inviting him on a Job interview in Shaw Blvd. Mandaluyong City Metro Manila, for civil engineer position in Hyundai Engineering and Construction (HDEC) base in  Kuwait. Unfortunately, he cannot attend the interview, although he stays in Manila, his current employer designates him in Boracay Aklan province. Therefore, he called me to inform me about the said interview. He asked me to attend the interview since he cannot make it. aside from time-consuming, it is costly. Because he needs to leave in his work for a couple of days to fly from Aklan to Manila. it is also risky on his side. if he cannot make it on the interview a lot of time and money will be wasted.

At first, I am doubtful to attend the said interview. during the phone conversation, he is telling me all the necessary details including the location. it is only 10 mins away on a jeep ride from my current project location and it will only cost me 7 pesos going there from our project. that's why I decided to attend the interview.

It was September 28, 2016 Morning, when I attended the interview. I submitted a leave form from my employer. When I arrived at the venue, I saw a lot of people with their portfolio in their hand, there is no doubt they are also here for an interview. I got intimidated, they bring one folder in their portfolio. I only bring a two-page CV. and their ages range from 30-50 years old, probably they are experienced engineer, and I only have two years experience in my field. It came to my mind to back out, pero na isip ko, "nandito na ko wala naman mawawala kung susubukan ko" Therefore, I waited for my turn.

During the interview, the first question was asked is my age, haha! I knew it already. the interviewer is a Korean his age around 40-45 years old. His technical question is about the bored pile, he asks me if I have already experienced board piling I said yes, even though its not really an experience it is just observation during the piling works of my current employer. after I said yes, he asked me how many meters does the pile length I had experienced, I answered around 40-50m. then the last question is, to compute the amount of rebar of a given pile, he gave the details, the length of the pile, the diameter and the spacing. he gave the details in a different unit, maybe to try me if I know how to convert unit.  i make them on the same unit then I used basic formula of mathematics to get the length. is showed my answer and BOOM! wrong! i got mistaken on my first attempt. I asked one more chance, the Pythagorean theorem save me. I used the Pythagorean theorem and I get an answer closer to his answer. Then interview is done.

After that, He wrote a result note on the paper I filled up, but since it is written in Korean character, I don't know the result if I passed or I failed, until one Filipino employee from that agency, shook my hands and congratulates me she said. "Ang galing ah!" I asked her, Pasok po ba ako? she said yes. then she brought me to another room for job offer acceptance and salary.

Another Korean offered me $ 1,200, Free transportation, free accommodation, free food, etc. in short almost all basic need was included. at first, I asked to make it  $1,400 (additional $200) he said no. He told me if I don't like his offer its ok. not to accept. but $1,200 is 60,000 pesos tax-free, far more than my current salary which is 17,000 pesos gross. That is why I accepted the offer.

I am so happy I thought I cant make it, Because other than I am too young to work abroad, I am also inexperienced. But if God gave you this opportunity no one can take it away from you. that is why I m so blessed and thankful.
